I am Lysandra, maker of Oh Honey Silhouettes!

Canadian mum of two, living her creative dreams. I became inspired by the original Victorian 'shadow art'. You know the ones! The painted silhouettes of your great grandmother, passed down from generation to generation. Then I thought... how perfect would it be to make these for our little ones? But, unlike the original shadow art, I want to capture all the small details that make your child unique - from the little curl of their hair, to the curve of their chin.

We’re thrilled to share our journey with you! What started as a passion project has grown into a beautiful team, now including two talented designers, Natalie and Kirstie.

Natalie is a wonderful mum of two little ones living in England, and Kirstie is also a mum of two and a longtime friend from school, now based in Canada. Together, we’re dedicated to creating stunning silhouettes that capture precious moments.

My own love for shadow art blossomed while I was pregnant with my first daughter, Bee, in 2019. With a bachelor's degree in photography and experience in editing and Photoshop, I began experimenting with silhouettes. My mother-in-law, who runs a home daycare, provided the perfect opportunity to take portraits of the kids and refine my silhouette technique. I was determined to perfect every little detail!

A significant inspiration has always been bees. The idea of these hardworking creatures creating something beautiful—honey—resonated with me throughout my photography career, even during my wedding! The first piece I created was a frame coated in beeswax and watercolors, with a silhouette peeking underneath. They turned out beautiful, but as a perfectionist, I found it challenging to get the beeswax to crack just right.

Now, we’re still growing and exploring new ways to showcase our silhouettes. I love creating my daughters' silhouettes every few months, and the joy it brings me is something I hope to share with all of you. Our little ones are only young once, and capturing these milestones is truly special!
